Encouraging Signs Despite Cup Exit.

Robbie Nellies

Batting and Bowling Improvements.

Dunfermline U13s 122 for 2 ( N Salt 31 retired, B Pearson 30 retired, G Connolly 1 for 14, D May 1 for 13).
Falkland U13s 95 for 6 ( M Connolly 24, A Irvine 14, B Pearson 2 for 2).
The Falcons lost this U13 Scottish Cup tie by 27 runs but it was good to see improvements in several areas. Dunfermline won the toss and decided to bat getting off to a flyer with 29 ( 14 wides including 2 fives) coming off the first 2 overs. After this the bowling improved and in particular George Connolly's spell of 1 for 14 was the most impressive. Dev took the only other wicket to fall with Hector, Lyle, Grant and Lachlan all bowling good spells. 29 extras were included in the total of which 23 were wides. A number of catches went down which is definitely an area needing some extra practice.
Dev and Lachlan opened for Falkland but couldn't emulate the start that Dunfermline made as Dev was caught behind for 3. Lachlan went quickly thereafter and we were 8 for 2. This soon became 14 for 3 as George was run out. Lyle then joined Adam and they put on 14 for the 4th wicket before Adam (14) was out to a very good catch. Lyle who scored 9 (inc two 4s) was then run out ...37 for 5 from 9 overs ! At this stage a win seemed almost impossible but Magnus had other ideas as he smashed 24 ( 5 fours). He and Toby put on 40 for the 6th wicket and we were 77 for 6 with 5 overs to go. Toby (9 not out ) and Grant (10 not out ) saw us through to 95 without losing another wicket. 27 runs short but a great effort none the less. The bowling is getting more accurate and 95 is our highest score this season. Well done boys ! Also thanks to the umpires Lindsay, Malky and Callum for braving the midges.
