Dunfermline & Carnegie 2 beat Falkland 3 by 4 wkts
The 3rd XI were unlucky to lose a tight game at Mckane Park on Saturday. Winning the toss, captain Jamie Aitken decided to have a bat. With what could be described as a mixed team, with fewer than half the original selection actually taking the field, the batting order was similarly mixed.
Right down the order, everyone applied themselves, ensuring we batted the full 40 overs, even if, with the exception of Harry Ferguson (53) and Aaran Barclay (19), the runs didn't exactly flow. A total of 131 for 9 looked defendable.
Tony Palin bowled 8 superb overs, straight through because we didn't think he'd be able to loosen up again to come back, conceding only 11 runs and being unfortunate not to get a wicket. The wickets which did fall were shared around, 2 each for Aaron and Peter Matthews, and one for Richie and the skipper.
The atmosphere in the team was positive throughout and the fielding was excellent given the physical limitations of so many of us. We always felt we were in the game and had a chance right until the end.
Congratulations to our opponents and thanks to them for a friendly and competitive game.
Roll on next week
