Marchmont 3 beat Falkland 3 by 3 wkts
On a scorching day with the rumble of thunder in the distance. Falkland 3rd XI Captain Jamie Aitken made it 3 in 3 winning coin tosses and decided to bat hoping to set the opposition a formidable total.
A strong opening bowling attack restricted runs early on removing Falkland’s openers before a solid half century from Tony Palin pushed the total on to 115-5. Despite this promising position the tail were unable to push on and despite some rearguard action from David Chambers and Kevin Russell, Falkland fell to 139 all out.
At the start of the 2nd Innings it was vital to take early wickets applying the pressure on Marchmont and Tony Palin duly obliged taking the opener's middle stump early on. Having restricted the run rate, first bowling change Callum Guiney made a further impact thanks to a sharp catch by Tony Palin at gully and clean bowling their no.3 batsman. A combination of solid catching and tight bowling had the opposition 6 down and victory was within Falkland’s grasp. Unfortunately, a timely Marchmont partnership saw them home. Special mention to Pat Watson with his first bowling spell in 25 years taking the 7th wicket.
