Falkland 2 faced the toughest assignment in the division on Saturday as league leaders Forfarshire 2 arrived at Scroggie Park - and the visitors showed exactly why they sit top of the table, producing a dominant performance with bat and ball to secure a heavy win.

Forfs chose to bat first and immediately took control. Although Ryan Jennings and Ryan Hepburn struck early to remove Sinclair and Stonebridge, the innings was defined by a superb century from J Laing, who made 110 from 100 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. Falkland simply couldn’t contain him, and when J Main added a patient but effective 58 from 88, the visitors were cruising.

The most worrying element of the innings was the extras column. Falkland conceded 32 wides - more than five overs’ worth of free runs - and 38 extras in total, allowing Forfarshire to build pressure without taking risks. Against a top side, that’s a decisive handicap.

There were still moments of fight. Rory Mackenzie bowled well for 3 for 45, and Hepburn’s 2 for 47 came from a spell that deserved more. But with Forfs accelerating late through Girolami, McLelland and Sharma, the total climbed to a commanding 303 for 7.

Chasing such a score required a near‑perfect batting display, but Falkland never got going. Charlie Burton played the only innings of substance, making 31 from 51, and Craig Hepburn added 15 with a six. Beyond that, wickets fell regularly as Girolami (4 for 41) and Duncan (3 for 19) ripped through the middle order.

From 63–3, the innings collapsed to 108 all out in 28 overs, with eight wickets falling for just 45 runs. Forfarshire’s attack was disciplined and relentless - but Falkland also contributed to their own downfall with loose shots and a lack of partnerships.

This was a tough day, and the margin reflects it. Forfarshire are the best side in the league, but Falkland made life far too easy for them with the volume of wides and the lack of sustained pressure in the field. The batting showed glimpses, but never enough to threaten.
