A young Falkland 2nd XI, supported by the experience of Craig Trewartha, Stuart Campbell, Craig Hepburn and Devon May, put in a spirited performance at Scroggie on Saturday but were edged out by a well‑drilled DHSFPs 2 side who chased down 163 with multiple overs to spare.

Having won the toss, Falkland chose to bat and made a solid start through Craig Trewartha, who played with authority and timing throughout his excellent 53 from 57 balls, striking seven boundaries and setting the tone for the innings. At the other end, Rory Mackenzie dug in for a patient 17, helping build a platform at 39-0 before two quick wickets stalled momentum.

The innings was rebuilt superbly by Stuart Campbell, whose calm, composed 50 from 81 balls was a vital anchor. Campbell rotated well, punished anything overpitched, and held the middle order together as younger players rotated around him. Brief contributions from Hepburn (8) and Angus Forbes (4) nudged the score along, but DHSFPs kept chipping away, and Falkland’s lower order couldn’t quite provide the late acceleration needed.

Falkland closed on 163 all out, a total that felt competitive but slightly below par given the conditions.

With the ball, Falkland started brightly. Mohammad Hussain struck twice early, removing Adeeb and Pavan, and Owen Cutler bowled an excellent nine‑over spell of 2 for 25, including the key wicket of Salie. When Rory Mackenzie pinned Irfan in front, DHSFPs were 55–3 and the game was finely balanced.

But the visitors’ middle order proved decisive. Rachuri’s patient 30 kept the chase steady, and Thankavelu’s match‑winning 48 not out from 65 balls took the game away from Falkland. Despite good spells from Devon May (1 for 18) and continued discipline from the bowlers, DHSFPs reached 164 for 6 in 34 overs, sealing a four‑wicket win.

For Falkland, this was a performance full of effort and learning. The senior players led from the front - Trewartha and Campbell with the bat, while the younger group continued to gain valuable experience in pressure situations.

Not the result the 2s wanted, but plenty to build on as this developing side continues to grow.
