A young Falkland 2nd XI travelled to Lochlands on Saturday and, despite showing plenty of effort and discipline, were well beaten by an experienced Arbroath United 2 side who chased down the target with ease.

Having won the toss, Falkland chose to bat first and were immediately made to work hard for every run. Callum May played the anchor role superbly, batting 77 balls for a patient 34, holding the innings together while wickets fell regularly around him. George Gallagher showed good temperament in his 27 from 68, and Robbie Gilmour added a valuable unbeaten 26 from 40 to push the total forward.

But Arbroath’s bowlers were relentless. Ross (4 for 23) and McGill (2 for 25) kept Falkland tied down throughout, and the middle order collapse (a theme across all XIs this season) - from 73-3 to 86-7 - stalled any momentum. Late contributions from Angus Forbes (9) and Owen Forbes (3) nudged the score to 129 for 9 from 45 overs, a total that always looked short on a fast-scoring Lochlands outfield.

Arbroath’s reply made that clear very quickly. Although Robbie Gilmour struck twice early and Skye Green bowled an excellent spell, taking 2 for 30, the home side were always in control. Edwards set the tone with a brisk 46 from 49, Hogg added a rapid 26 from 18, and Peal (15) and Davidson (13) finished the job without fuss.

Arbroath reached 130 for 4 in just 17.2 overs, sealing a comfortable six‑wicket win.

A tough day, but another important learning step for a very young 2s group.
