Falkland 2 Dig Deep for a Vital Win

Cameron Nellies

Gallagher’s fifty and Styer’s five‑for end the losing streak on a day of real resilience.

Falkland 2 finally snapped their run of seven straight defeats on Saturday with a hard‑earned, badly needed win away at Kinloch, defending 222 in a performance full of grit, patience and togetherness. It was a day that demanded resilience - not least after a worrying moment when Geordie Gallagher had to leave the field while keeping, having been struck on the head by the ball.

Batting first after winning the toss, Falkland made a shaky start as Craig Trewartha and Kyle Lottering fell early. At 10-2, the innings needed stability, and it arrived in the form of Geordie Gallagher, who played one of the most important knocks of the 2s’ season. His 62 from 78 balls, full of control, placement and calm decision‑making, anchored the innings and gave Falkland the platform they’ve been missing during their recent run of defeats.

He was supported superbly by Stuart Campbell, whose composed 33 from 43 helped settle the innings, and then Charlie Burton, who added a valuable 39 from 60 in the middle overs. Falkland’s total was lifted again late on by Connor Langlands, who struck a lively 30 from 27, including two sixes, injecting momentum at exactly the right time.

With 28 extras added to the tally, Falkland posted 222 for 9, their strongest batting effort in weeks and a total that reflected both patience and intent.

Kinloch’s reply began brightly, with S Khan and H Hussain scoring freely. But Falkland’s bowlers stuck to their plans, and the game swung when Daniel Styer produced a superb spell. He finished with outstanding figures of 8 overs, 5 for 29, ripping through Kinloch’s middle and lower order just as the chase tightened.

Mid‑innings came the worrying moment: keeper Geordie Gallagher, fresh from his crucial half‑century, was struck on the head by the ball and had to leave the field. The team rallied around him, with stand‑in keeper Stu Campbell stepping in and the bowlers maintaining focus despite the disruption.

Kinloch’s main resistance came from S Shafi, who made a dangerous 58 from 50, but Falkland kept chipping away. Burton’s two wickets, Lottering’s breakthrough, and Cutler’s dismissal of H Khan ensured the pressure never eased. Extras threatened to drag Kinloch back into the contest, but once Styer removed Shafi and Ahmed in quick succession, the chase collapsed from 198-5 to 203 all out.

After seven defeats on the bounce across league and cup, this was a performance full of character. Falkland showed patience with the bat, discipline with the ball, and togetherness in a moment of adversity. The win was earned the hard way - and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
