Falkland 2 made the long trip to Aberdeen on Saturday and produced a spirited performance against Master Blasters, pushing the hosts deep into the contest before falling 31 runs short in a high‑scoring game at St Margaret’s School. It was a match full of effort, character and moments of real quality — none more so than the return of Connor Langlands, who marked his first appearance of the season with a brilliant, aggressive innings that nearly dragged Falkland to a memorable chase.
Having won the toss, Falkland chose to bowl, and the attack worked hard throughout against a strong Master Blasters batting unit. George Cutler struck early, removing Bhide, and Rory Mackenzie and Craig Trewartha added wickets to keep the innings in check. But the hosts built their total through three major contributions: Mahajan’s patient 56, Laghari’s fluent 60, and Reddy’s powerful 65 not out. Extras also hurt Falkland, with 27 wides helping push the total to 243 for 8 from 45 overs.
Chasing on a quick outfield, Falkland needed partnerships — and they found them. After Stuart Campbell fell early, Craig Trewartha set the tone with a positive 37 from 40 balls, striking three fours and three sixes. George Cutler then dug in for a vital 35 from 90 deliveries, anchoring the innings while wickets fell around him.
The turning point came with the arrival of Connor Langlands, making his first appearance of the season after injury — and immediately reminding everyone what he brings to the side. Connor played with intent, confidence and clean striking, blasting 67 from 47 balls, including seven sixes, in a knock that completely changed the momentum of the chase. It was the standout innings of Falkland’s reply and a hugely encouraging sign for the weeks ahead.
Rory Mackenzie added 9, Owen Cutler chipped in with 4, and Scott Meikle provided late hope with a lively 21 from 20 balls. Struan Keddie finished unbeaten, but the required rate eventually climbed too high, and Falkland were bowled out for 212 in 42.5 overs — a strong effort that showed real fight.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives: Connor’s explosive return, Craig’s early platform, George’s anchor role, and a bowling unit that kept working on a day where extras inflated the total. The 2s showed resilience, spirit and improvement — and with players returning and confidence growing, there’s plenty to build on.
