Falkland’s 2nd XI were edged out by Forfarshire 2 in a high‑scoring contest at Forthill, losing by two wickets in a match that swung back and forth all afternoon and could easily have gone the other way. Batting first, the 2s posted 264/5 from 45 overs — a total built on control, partnerships, and contributions right through the order.
Callum May was superb at the top, compiling a fluent 80 from 83 balls, mixing patience with authority as he anchored the innings. Tass Hussain (45 from 61) provided the perfect foil in an opening stand of 91, setting a strong platform. After Tass fell, Stuart Campbell (23) kept things ticking before Devon May injected real momentum with a blistering 29 from 20, including two sixes.
Fresh from last week’s heroics, Craig Hepburn added a lively 31 from 33, and the innings closed strongly through Jack Bell (22)* and Ryan Hepburn (9)*, pushing Falkland to a competitive 264 — a total that felt defendable but always likely to require discipline with the ball.
Forfarshire’s reply began quickly, but Falkland hit back through Daniel Styer, who removed opener Garden and later added Sinclair and Main to finish with 3 for 50. Greg Chambers (2 for 61) and Jack Bell (1 for 25) also struck, and at 86‑3 and later 159‑4, Falkland had the game finely poised.
But the defining innings came from Forfarshire’s R Watson, whose outstanding 110 from 116 balls* held the chase together. He absorbed pressure, punished anything loose, and guided the innings with calm authority. Falkland continued to take wickets around him — 166‑5, 167‑6, 210‑7 — but Watson kept the scoreboard moving, and with extras contributing a costly 45, the hosts edged closer.
The match remained alive deep into the final overs, but Forfarshire’s lower order supported their set batter just well enough, and they reached 265/8 in 43.4 overs, sealing a two‑wicket win in a game where Falkland were competitive throughout but couldn’t quite find the decisive breakthrough.
A frustrating result, but a performance full of runs, intent, and fight.
