Scroggie Park witnessed one of the great 2nd XI batting displays on Saturday as Falkland piled up a monstrous 371/3, powered by an extraordinary unbeaten 170 from Craig Hepburn and a superb 73 from George Cutler in a partnership that will be talked about for a long time — a colossal 227‑run stand that completely broke the game open.
The innings didn’t start smoothly, with Stuart Campbell gone early, but from there Falkland unleashed 45 overs of controlled, relentless batting. Tass Hussain’s rapid 34 off 22 set the tone, striking five boundaries and a six to lift the tempo. Once he departed at 68‑2, the stage belonged entirely to the Cutler–Hepburn show.
George played the perfect foil, accumulating calmly, rotating the strike, and punishing anything loose on his way to a well‑crafted 73 from 97 balls. At the other end, Craig produced one of the finest knocks ever seen for the 2s — a masterclass in timing, placement, and power. His 170 from 135 balls, featuring 24 fours and 2 sixes, was equal parts brutality and elegance, accelerating beautifully as the innings wore on. By the time George fell at 295‑3, the damage was long done, and Ryan Hepburn’s tidy 12 helped push the total to a towering 371/3.
Arbroath’s reply never got close. Falkland’s bowlers were disciplined, accurate, and ruthless from ball one. Ryan Hepburn (2–14) and Tass Hussain (1–11) ripped through the top order, before the Cutler brothers took over with the ball as well — George (2–20) and Owen (2–9) both striking twice. There were further wickets for Gary Lennie (1–8), Mohammad Hussain (1–8) and Scott Meikle (1–5) as Arbroath were bundled out for 112 in 28.5 overs.
A complete performance, a record‑level partnership, and a day where everything clicked. The 2s were simply unstoppable.
