Falkland 2 beat Carlton 3 by 98 runs

The 2s notched up a much needed win at Grange Loan thanks largely to a great all round display from Ben Strachan.

Despite the rain through the week, the ground and pitch were in good condition and, having won the toss, Ash decided to have a bat. Euan Sloan and Kris Glen batted steadily to see off the openers, but neither were to stay to benefit from their hard work as they fell in successive overs after the change of bowling.

This fall of Kris brought Ben out to join Waldo and the steady rate of progress continued as we reached 46/2 at drinks, (better than the previous week). After drinks, the run rate increased steadily as both batsmen settled in. Ben took on the bowling with Waldo supporting and producing some fine shots of his own. Ben's 100 came from 77 balls with the 2nd 50 taking only 26. He eventually fell for 116 in the last over by which time Waldo had passed 50, finishing on a well played 53 not out.

After tea, Greg opened the bowling and cleaned bowled the number 2 batsman with his 5th ball. In the 4th over, Ben took 2 in 3 balls to reduce Carlton to 14/3. Thereafter, wickets fell at regular intervals: Greg had 2 caught behind by Adze and Mike Watson had 3, thanks to catches from Ben, Ash and Euan. Another wicket for Ben and a run out meant that the home side were bowled out for 104.
