In our first friendly of the season, we travelled to play an eleven from the newly merged Dunfermline and Carnegie Club. With many players on tour, we had only 9 players and in a game where it was agreed that 35 overs a side would be bowled, we did well to post 195. Adam Ferguson made 55, Wayne Sullivan 37 and young Cameron Paton a useful 11 on his season debut.
With a player having to leave for personal reasons, we were grateful to Grant's dad, Duncan for turning out to field for us on a freezing afternoon. The fielding and bowling were generally good and, although the wides total looks high, the umpire was very tight on these for a friendly in April.
Our young bowlers, Grant, Greg, Calum May and Cameron Paton all bowled well for the first game, and Ryan Farmer, who hasn't bowled his leg breaks for at least two years, also did well. The awareness and commitment in the field was also first class, especially in the circumstances.
