Sponsors Day at Scroggie Park delivered exactly what everyone hoped for: a commanding, professional Falkland performance from first ball to last. Against a depleted Royal High Corstorphine side, the 1st XI produced one of their most complete displays of the season, winning by nine wickets and showcasing the quality and intent that has been missing somewhat in recent weeks.
Having won the toss, Falkland chose to bowl - and immediately set the tone. The visitors struggled to find momentum as Daniel Styer led the attack superbly, finishing with a brilliant 5 for 14 from 5 overs, ripping through the lower order and ensuring RHC never recovered from their slow start.
Before Styer’s burst, Falkland had already applied pressure. George Cutler struck early, Asif Khan removed Stagg, Tass Hussain picked up two important middle‑order wickets, and Lyle Robertson delivered an outstanding spell of 1 for 23 from 8 overs, controlling the run rate and forcing mistakes.
RHC’s innings was held together by Rane (48 from 95) and Dunford (42 from 51), but with 33 wides inflating the total, their final score of 181 all out always felt below par on a good, albeit ragging, Scroggie wicket.
The chase was a statement.
Steven Meikle and Lyle Robertson batted with purpose and never let RHC settle. Meikle anchored the innings beautifully, finishing 75 not out from 96 balls, mixing patience with authority. At the other end, Robertson was electric - his 78 not out from 56 balls, with seven fours and four sixes, blew the game open and thrilled the sponsors watching on.
Jack Henderson contributed 23 before falling at 59-1, but from there Falkland were ruthless. The partnership between Meikle and Robertson was calm, controlled and utterly dominant, sealing victory in just 33.3 overs and closing out the day in style.
On a day dedicated to the club’s sponsors, the 1st XI delivered the perfect thank‑you: a confident, disciplined, and entertaining win.
A strong performance, a strong message, and a strong way to round off Sponsors Day at Scroggie.
