Falkland travelled to Portgower Place on Saturday hoping to steady the ship after a difficult run of results, but instead the 1st XI were swept aside by a clinical Grange outfit who chased down 143 with ease. It rounded off a tough day across the club, with all three Falkland teams convincingly beaten.

Having won the toss, Falkland chose to bat - but the innings never found stability. Steven Meikle and Sriram Muramalla both fell early, leaving the visitors 13-2 and immediately under pressure. Jack Henderson played positively for his 32 from 43 balls, striking six boundaries, but when he departed at 71-3, the innings again stalled.

The one major contribution came from Asifulla Khan, who battled hard for 51 from 90 balls, holding the innings together while wickets continued to fall around him. Kyle Lottering added a useful 32 from 49, including a six, but the lower order collapsed rapidly. From 136–5, Falkland lost five wickets for just seven runs, finishing 143 all out in 39.3 overs.

Grange’s attack were disciplined and relentless. Hodgins (2 for 36), Jones (2 for 30) and Pullar (3 for 11) ensured Falkland never built momentum, and the total always looked short on a good batting surface.

Defending 143 required early breakthroughs, and Taha Khan provided one by bowling Crawley for 5. But that was the only success Falkland managed. From 10–1, Grange took complete control through R Grant’s dominant 82 from 61 balls, featuring 14 boundaries, and C Peet’s steady 44 not out. The pair added an unbroken 135, sealing victory in just 24 overs.

Falkland’s bowlers worked hard but were given no scoreboard pressure to work with. Grange simply played with freedom, punished anything loose, and never looked in danger.

This result, combined with heavy defeats for the 2s and 3s, made it a difficult day across the club. All three sides were convincingly outplayed, and the gap to the league’s strongest teams was clear. The challenge now is to regroup, reset, and find a response in the coming weeks.

A tough afternoon - and a reminder of the standards required at this level.
