Falkland welcomed Freuchie Cricket Club to Scroggie Park for the Scottish National Final of the Voneus Village Cup. Also welcomed was a large crowd of supporters for both sides. However, proceedings started with a poignant silence for the sad loss of long time Falkland player and Committee Member, Charlie McGarrie.

Falkland’s Captain Jack Henderson won the toss and chose to bat first. There was another Captain’s innings by Jack Henderson, reaching his 100 runs off 86 balls and finally falling to a catch by Jamie Armstrong off the bowling of Greg Birrell. Jack scored 123 from 94 balls. The home side’s innings was helped by Julian De Jäger’s 40 off 55 balls and Euan Sloan’s rapid 46 runs off just 21 balls. Falkland reached a total of 261 runs for 5 wickets from their allotted 40 overs.

Shane Munro and Robbie Wright started off the visitor’s reply, but were always behind the run rate. Wright’s wicket fell first for 41 with the score on 87. Munro was joined by Greg Birrell who was run out by some very sharp fielding by Euan Sloan off the bowling of Jack Henderson, soon followed by Munro being trapped LBW by Alan Hamilton for 46 and after Freuchie’s Captain Ian Stonebridge was caught by Ryan Jennings off the bowling of Jack Henderson, the visitor's reply petered out. At one stage Jack Henderson was on a hatrick having claimed the wickets of Stonebridge and Armstrong but Stewart Gibson was able to keep the ball out.

Freuchie were all out for 162 from 38.1 overs

Jack Henderson finished with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 15 runs from 4 overs and Julian De Jäger 3 wickets for 15 runs from 4.1 overs.

Falkland won by 99 runs and in the next round of this competition welcome Ainsdale CC from South Lancashire to Scroggie Park on Sunday 18th June.
