Falkland 1st XI lost by 47 runs

It was an unseasonably overcast and cold day at Grange Loan in Edinburgh where home side Carlton welcomed Falkland for their CS Men’s Scottish Cup tie. After a 30 minute delay because of the damp conditions Carlton’s Captain, Arun Pillai won the toss and elected to bat first. Falkland’s bowlers did well with only Hugo Southwell (32 from 42 balls) and Scottish International, Alastair Evans (32 from 43 balls) achieving any real scores. The bowlers were well supported by the fielders including a very well taken, low and fast catch by George Cutler. The home side were unable to use up their allocated 50 overs and were all out for 158 from 40.1 overs.

Ryan Hepburn returned bowling figures of 3 wickets for 28 runs, Julian De Jäger 2 wickets for 18 runs, Alan Hamilton 2 wickets for 22 runs, Logan Briggs 2 wickets for 27 runs and Greg Chambers 1 wicket for 33 runs.

The Falkland innings started well and reached 67 for the loss of just 1 wicket but after Matt Surrey (30 runs from 39 balls) and Kyle Jacobs (27 from 49 balls) the run chase fell away and ended when Falkland had scored 111 from 34 overs. Arun Pillai finished with bowling figures of 4 wickets for 12 runs and Rory Allardice 4 wickets for 22 runs.

Falkland lost by 47 runs and Carlton progress in the Men’s Scottish Cup to take on the winners of Aberdeenshire versus Grange.
