Firsts Lose to Watsonians

Following Falkland’s dramatic victory over Grange the previous week the team travelled to Edinburgh to play Watsonians. The home side won the toss and elected to bat on a surface that appeared hard and had been mown very short resulting in the outfield being fast. There was also quite a short boundary between the Scorebox and the wicket.
Unfortunately for Falkland, Oli Hairs was in devastating form, having been dropped on 11 he had hit 108 off just 60 balls when he was bowled by Greg Chambers. Michael Carson, Watsonian’s second opener was also in good form and scored 123 before being well caught by Cameron Nellies off Jack Henderson’s bowling at which point the home side were 289 for 4 wickets. Watsonians amassed 349 for 6 wickets from their 50 overs.

In reply Falkland were 199 all out in 44.1 overs. Charlie Cassell top scored with a well played 51 from 50 balls. Watsonians won by 150 runs but it should be recorded that at no point during the match did the Falkland teams heads drop. They tried throughout but this was just not their day.
