Falkland Won by 5 wkts

Eastern Premier League at Falkland.

Falkland had a famous victory on Saturday against Grange, and taken in conunction with the defeat of Arbroath at Forfarshire, it means that Falkland have all but saved themsleves from the spectre of relegation unless something rather remarkable happens in the last four weeks of the season.

Falkland won the toss and invited the slightly understrength Grange side who were short of a few men because of International commitments and other reasons, to bat first. Grange's total of 223 was considered about par and owed a great deal to a stand of 98 for the fourth wicket between Jarvis and Foulds. But Falkland in spite of a few fielding errors stuck well to their task and Charlie Cassell produced what was probably his best performane of the summer with 9 Overs 3 Maidens 33 Runs and 5 Wickets, while Lyle Robertson's 3 for 29 was also worth a mention.

Falkland got off to a great start with Steven Meikle and Jack Henderson putting on 83 for the 1st wicket, but when 3 wickets fell for the next 6 runs, it was feared by supporters that the "Falkland self-destruct" button, which has been in evidence rather too much this summer, was about to be pressed again, but Harsha Cooray and Charlie Cassell steadied the ship, and Harsha was there at the end, aided by the valuable support of Devon May, as Falkland got home with 8 balls to spare.

It was great entainment for the spectators as the fine weather of 2022 continued, and it now seems likely that Falkland will stay in the Eastern Premier League for 2023. Four League games are left, and the next game is a visit to Watsonians in Edinburgh.
