Falkland 1st XI Won by 83 runs
Falkand achieved their first win of the season at Scroggie Park on Saturday, and a well deserved win it was, by 83 runs against Arbroath. Falkland batted first and posted a good total of 207 with some fine aggressive batting by Charlie Cassell in particular, but their score would have been a great deal less if Arbroath had held on to at least some of the six catches that came their way and were dropped. Falkland's good score owed a great deal to the opening stand of 73 from Euan Sloan and Graeme Watson.
The total always looked good enough, and wickets kept falling fairly regularly with every Falkland bowler bar one capturing at least one wicket, and the unusual ploy of opening with a spinner in Logan Briggs rather than a fast man seemed to be a success. Falkland's fielding, although far from perfect, was better than Arbroath's, and Arbroath never looked like reaching the total. If there was a fault in Falkland's performance, it lay in the way that they failed to finish off the tail enders, a fault that may cost them dear against better opposition than Arbroath. It was one of the poorer Arbroath teams of recent years, but that must in no way detract from Falkland's deserved victory.
