On paper it looks as if it was an easy win for Falkland, but in fact they had to work every inch of the way against a stuffy Arbroath side which contained three girls, all of whom played a significant part in the game. Arbroath won the toss and batted first, with veteran John Salmond putting on 63 runs. He was helped by 31 from John Burnett and their total of 156 was respectable. Falkland did not help their cause by bowling 16 wides and they were also guilty of some pretty poor ground fielding with, in particular, an unnecessary amount of overthrows. On the other hand there were some good catches taken, one in particular by Harsha Cooray, now back in Scotland and having served his quarantine.

Falkland started brightly in spite of the early loss of Sloan, but when Graeme Watson was out, and the score was 39 for 2, the game was in the balance but then Harsha Cooray came in to join Matt Surry, and Falkland won comfortably by 7 wickets and 15 Overs to spare. The victory was brought about by some fine hitting by Cooray and a more dogged, but effective, performance from Surry.

Falkland have now played 5 games in the North Eastern Championship and won 4 of them. Stoneywood-Dyce are next up on Saturday.
