Freuchie 166 for 8 in 40 Overs
(R Birrell 67, I Stonebridge 42, A Hamilton 4 for 37)
Falkland 137 all out in 33.1 Overs.
(G Gallagher 43, R Wright 4 for 17)
Freuchie Won by 29 Runs
Falkland disappointed their supporters by going out of the Village Cup at the first time of asking at Scroggie on Sunday May 26. Following heavy overnight rain which extended well into the morning, the start was delayed until 2.30 pm, and Ryan Hepburn on winning the toss asked Freuchie to bat. In difficult batting conditions 166 was a good score and owed a great deal to a stand of 80 between Robbie Birrell and Ian Stonebridge. But Falkland did not help their cause by bowling 21 wides and by some desperately awful ground fielding.
In reply, no-one really got going for Falkland and a stand of 32 for the 8th wicket between Geordie Gallagher and Ryan Hepburn was too little too late. Freuchie fielded better than Falkland and bowled fewer wides, and Robbie Wright's 4 for 17 was a match-winning return. Falkland finished 29 runs short, and there were to be no trips to England this year!
