Falkland beat ASI Gordonians by 5 wkts

Falkland travelled to Aberdeen on Saturday and recorded a fine and much needed victory. It was a shame that it mattered so little, but it does mean that Falkland finished what had been a disappointing season (both with performances and the weather) on a high note. It was also a very nice day - something that we have not had too many of this cricket season!

To a large extent, Falkland owed their victory to their international brigade with Harsha Cooray scoring a match winning century and Darren Pearse performing well with both bat and bowl, but it was also very encouraging to see so many youngsters learning their trade in the 1st XI. The future looks bright for Falkland.

Gordonians won the toss at Countesswells and decided to bat. Their challenging total of 215 owed a lot to Saraswat's fine knock which contained 4 sixes in his 80 runs. Falkland's bowling was generally good with Darren Pearse the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets. Only 6 Wides were conceded, but Falkland were let down by some poor fielding in the latter stages of the innings when several easy catches were dropped. These errors probably cost Falkland about 40 runs.

In reply, Falkland were behind the asking rate for a long time after the early loss of their top order, but Harsha Cooray showed just why he has been such a good professional with his well timed and well judged 100 not out. He was ably assisted by Darren Pearse who scored a good 53 before falling when victory was in sight.
