Watsonians beat Falkland by 316 runs
Falkland sustained a rather comprehensive defeat at Scroggie Park on Saturday.
In cold, unpleasant, blustery conditions Watsonians won the toss and opted to bat first. After a couple of early wickets went down to Aaron Paul, Mike Carson and George Munsey came together and took the score from 51 to 429 before both were dismissed on the same score, Munsey having scored 220 and Carson 167 as Watsonians reached the astonishing score of 440 for 4, believed to be a record for Watsonians, the Eastern Premier League and for Scroggie Park. It is also likely to be a record that will stand for some time. It was not that Falkland bowled badly - there were, for example, many fewer wides than in previous games this summer - it was just that they were up against a class act in Carson and Munsey. Munsey hit 12 sixes in his score of 220.
Chasing such a total, Falkland could only muster 124, Harsha Cooray hit 38, and Kris Glen and Stuart Campbell reached the early 20s, but the rest subsided tamely leaving Falkland anchored at the bottom of the Eastern Premier League at the halfway stage of the season, and awaiting the arrival of League leaders Arbroath next Saturday.
