In glorious sunshine on Sunday, Falkland were defeated by Carlton in the Scottish Cup, but did so with their heads held high after a creditable batting performance against one of the best teams in Scotland. Falkland chose to back first and in spite of the early loss of Sharif and Ferguson, reached 177 with fine contributions from Ben Strachan and Grant Doig with Harry Waterson in his first game of the season doing well also and hitting two sixes when the total needed a boost.
Then when Brock Ditchmen captured an early wicket, hopes were high that an upset might be on the cards, but Scotland Internationalist Fraser Watts took command and with support from Kyle Macpherson and Rory McCann batted Falkland out of the game. Watts batted particularly well for his 85 not out, and clearly Carlton will take some stopping in the Scottish Cup this year.
