Falkland beat Glenrothes by 33 runs
In a low scoring Fife derby at Gilvenbank Park, Falkland emerged victorious by 33 runs. The game was played in very cold conditions on a difficult wicket with no batsman on either side able to produce a good score and every run hard to get.
Falkland's total of 96 did not necessarily look like a winning score, and their cause was very much helped by Glenrothes conceding 24 extras. But Falkland were equally culpable with three run outs at the end. Safyaan Sharif batted sensibly for his 20, and a good partnership between captain Brock Ditchmen and Stephen Boyd added valuable late runs, but there is cause for concern about the lack of runs coming from the middle order.
Glenrothes started well and at 52 for 2 with Greaves going well, it was the home side who looked the likely winners, but Sharif, bowling beautifully from the top end, bowled Greaves, the first wicket of a 5 wicket haul. Ditchmen bowled well at the other end as well and the Glens collapsed to 63 all out.
Following last week's debacle against Grange, this was a welcome victory, but there are still questions to be answered, and a much improved performance will be necessary if the team are to do well against Forfarshire who visit Scroggie next Saturday.
