Falkland Won by 1 Run

Falkland's remarkable season continued with a virtually unbelievable win in Yorkshire on Sunday when they won by one run in a game that went to the very last ball. The circumstances were surely those of cricket at its best with good sunny weather, a close finish, chivalrous opponents and undeniably the best single day in Falkland's history since 1860!

Falkland batted first and reached 307-6 in their 40 Overs. This was due to a good opening stand by Jack Henderson and Adam Ferguson who put on 151 for the first wicket with Henderson reaching 80 and Ferguson 44. Brock Ditchmen then put on 72 in 51 balls, and the Falkland cause was helped by some sloppy Yorkshire fielding and bowling which conceded 66 extras.

The total of 307 never looked vaguely reachable but for the home side Tom Parker hit 155 and was backed by 88 from David Cummings, and had it not been for some brilliant Falkland ground fielding near the end, the game might have been lost. As it was, the bowling was tight at the death, and to the delight of the large travelling support, the team scraped home by one run.

It was a fine day for the club and the supporters who got back home in daylight on the Monday morning! Credit in particular must be paid to Geordie Gallagher who caught the prolific Parker on the line, could have claimed a catch, but signalled a 6, thus enhancing the club's reputation for good sportsmanship and fair play.

A visit to Stockport awaits in a fortnight's time.
