Falkland beat Aberdeenshire by 6 wkts
At Mannofield in Aberdeen on Saturday, Falkland had another excellent win. Fittingly at the lovely cricket ground of Mannofield where the great Don Bradman played his last game in 1948, it was an Australian who brought home the bacon for Falkland, as Wayne Sullivan rolled back the years to score 44 not out, bossing the Aberdeenshire attack with a controlled innings of 44 not out. He was ably supported in his endeavours by Grant Doig's fine 26 not out.
Aberdeenshire won the toss and made the questionable decision to bat first on a greentop of a wicket and with a slow outfield on which a considerable amount of rain had fallen in the previous 24 hours. Apart from Venske, none of their batsmen really got going, and they had no real answer to the fast accurate bowling of Safyaan Sharif who took 5 for 33. Jack Henderson also bowled well with 3 for 27, but the whole team deserve a great deal of credit for their good fielding as they restricted last year's Scottish Champions to 114.
It was a fine victory and puts Falkland back up again among the top notchers in the Eastern Premier League. Watsonians, the struggling Edinburgh side, are at Scroggie on Saturday.
