Falkland Lost by 142 Runs
Falkland's season got off to a losing start at Scroggie Park on Saturday, as they went down by a heavy margin to last year's Scottish League Champions Aberdeenshire.
The weather brightened up in time for a prompt start and Falkland won the toss and invited Aberdeenshire to take first knock. For a while, Falkland held them well and after 43 Overs with Aberdeenshire at 163 for 7, it did not look as if the Dons would reach 200. But Callum Martin hit 81 not out from 41 balls from bowling that became increasingly ragged towards the end and lifted his side to 254 for 8 at the end of the 50 Overs.
Falkland's reply got off to a reasonable start even though they lost new Overseas Amateur Cloete Buitendag for a duck early on. Jack Henderson started briskly but on 22 fell lbw to Adrian Neill who took 6 for 26 as Falkland collapsed miserably to 112 all out. Ben Strachan resisted well with 38 not out and Matt Surry scored 28, but no-one else reached double figures and that tells its own tale.
It is a poor start, but there is still time to improve. Next week the team travel to Edinburgh to play Watsonians.
