(P Drummond 77, A Gilmour 46, J Henderson 3 for 32)
Falkland Won by 15 Runs
Falkland completed their first hurdle in their quest for the Village Cup with a narrow but decisive win at Meigle on Sunday.
Inserted by Meigle in damp and difficult conditions, Falkland did well to reach 205 for 5 with Stuart Campbell hitting a good 78 against tight Meigle bowling. The home team’s fielding was a lot less impressive than their bowling, however. Several catches went down and poor ground fielding allowed Falkland more runs than they might have otherwise got. Campbell’s 78 was supplemented by Gray’s 40 and Ditchmen’s 31 not out.
When Meigle batted (after an excellent tea of stovies and beans!), Falkland put on their slow bowlers first to get through the required 20 Overs to make a Match of it in the event of rain, and Ditchmen’s 1 for 15 in his 9 Overs was a particularly impressive return. Yet Peter Drummond looked very good for Meigle and it was only when he was out to a caught and bowled from Jack Henderson that Falkland could breathe easier. Falkland’s fielding, while far from perfect, was noticeably better than Meigle’s and this was a telling contribution to the end result.
