Inept Display Sees Another Defeat

Heriot's FP 172 all out
(M Watt 52*, S Sharif 5/38, R Hepburn 3/32)

Falkland 63 all out
(A Nangia 24*, M Watt 4/14)

Falkland Lost by 109 Runs.

In what must rank as one of their most depressing performances for many years, Falkland conspired to throw away a potentially winning position, allowed Heriot's back into the game, then collapsed miserably to bowling which was good, but did not deserve to get a team dismissed for 63 all out in only slightly more than half the allotted overs

Falkland started with a bang as Steve Knox was dismissed in the first over, and then good bowling from Sharif and Hepburn (albeit hindered by some indifferent fielding including several dropped catches) pegged Heriot's back to 82 for 8, and Falkland looked good to dismiss the Edinburgh side for less than 100. But then, unaccountably, numbers 9 and 10 were allowed to double their score from 82 to 164 before Jack Henderson came on and dismissed one of them with his first ball. By then however the damage was done, and the body language of the Falkland fielders told its own story. One of the tail enders was a left hander and there seemed to be a particular problem in bowling a good line and length to him.

172, however, although disappointing from a Falkland point of view, did not seem to be an impossible target, but what a sorry tale Falkland's batting was! Ash Nangia, batting far too far down the order at number 9 showed what could have been done with a spirited 24 not out, but he was the only batsman to reach double figures! Safyaan Sharif was out to a brilliant caught and bowled, Connor Ryan was run out to a direct hit, but as for the rest of the batsmen, it is possibly best to say not very much. They have had better days and possibly will again next season, but it seems that, for some of them, the end of the season cannot come quickly enough.

Some of the Falkland batsmen were unhappy to be given out, but at least they did not behave like one of the Heriot's batsmen whose display of dissent at his lbw decision was one of the most foul mouthed, prolonged and loud pieces of nursery, kintergarden behaviour I have seen on a cricket field for a long time!
