After a disappointing performance last week at Arbroath, it was good to see Falkland win at Scroggie Park on Saturday. Brock Ditchman won the toss and batted, and although Connor Ryan was out to the second ball of the innings and Stephen Meikle was out for 6, the rest of the batting was far better than in recent days with 65 from Bryn Cleaver and an aggressive 53 from Adam Ferguson near the end of the innings to supplement a fighting 46 from Jack Henderson. The total of 221 for 7 was all the more praiseworthy, for a large part of the game was played in steady drizzle.
In slighty better conditions, Stoneywood also lost an early wicket, but some fine hitting by Scotland International Michael Leask saw them back in the game and indeed ahead for a spell, with Falkland seeming to lose concentration because of the inordinate amount of time searching for balls which were lost in the long grass! But Adam Ferguson took a stunning catch to dismiss Leask on the boundary, and although Conradie and Willemse looked as if they could win the game for the Aberdeen side, accurate bowling from Ditchmen in particular saw Falkland home by 31 runs, a result which puts Falkland in 4th place in the League table.
A trip to Grange awaits next week.
