Arbroath United won the toss and chose to bat on a grey and sometimes drizzly early afternoon at Lochlands. Arbroath lost 2 wickets for 21 runs after a difficult 8 overs (4 from S. Sharif with figures of 1 wkt for 1 run). After this Falkland just could not oust Arbroath's Bartlett and Burnett who scored 100 and 112 respectively. These two took the score to 238 before the 3rd wicket fell. Arbroath reached 265 for 6 from their 50 overs, though Sharif still returned excellent figures of 13 overs, 5mdns 19 runs 3 wkts.

The weather brightened as Falkland commenced their innings having been set a run rate of 5.32 per over to win. However, Falkland lost Connor Ryan for 0 in the 3rd over and after 10 overs reached just 25 runs. With the loss of the 3rd Wicket (Sharif) for 4 in the 19th over and with just 40 scored, Falkland were facing an up hill struggle.
