(N Lockyer 58, A Ferguson 36, H Tahir 4 for 40)
Falkland lost by 136 runs
Falkland finished their Scottish Cup campaign of 2013 with a miserable performance against Ferguslie on Saturday. Whilst it was good to see so many youngsters getting a chance to play for the 1st XI (an experience which will in the long run do them a lot of good), there was little doubt that Falkland were grossly out of their depth against a talented and committed Ferguslie side who have now topped the section and qualified for the Scottish Cup Quarter Final. Falkland's inexperience was seen mainly when they were in the field.
The bowling was naive, and the fielding was worse with catches dropped and runs conceded with overthrows and fumbles, so that the Ferguslie total of 322 basically put the game out of Falkland's reach. On the credit side, Brock Ditchmen, captain for the day bowled well for his 5 for 62, and both Nick Lockyer and Harry Waterston took two fine catches each.
Falkland in reply started steadily, although it was always clear that the total would be too much for them. Nevertheless Jack Henderson, Adam Ferguson and Nick Lockyer all played some fine strokes to give the home spectators something to cheer about. It was obvious however that Falkland, already out of the Scottish Cup, were preserving their resources for the more important games that can settle the Scottish League Division One. T
he second half of the League season begins next week with a trip to Dundee High School at Dalnacraig.
