Falkland Out of CS Trophy

Falkland had a bad weekend. Saturday's League game at Fauldhouse was off, victim of a flooded pitch, and on Sunday, they were knocked out of the CS Trophy by a good Arbroath side at Lochlands in a game that illustrated the difference in quality between the Eastern Premier Division and the Eastern First Division.

Falkland's bowlers never really took a grip of the game, and Arbroath reached the massive 263 for 4 with professional Hartha Vithana hitting 61 and Fraser Burnett 60 on a good wicket with a fast outfield. Brock Ditchmen took three wickets, but only after the damage had been done, and 26 extras were conceded.

In reply the loss of early wickets meant that Falkland were never really in contention and two run outs did not help the cause. Brock Ditchmen and Ryan Hepburn offered a great deal of late resistance, but it was all too late, and it might have made for an interesting game if the batsmen higher up the order had done this.

As it happened, however, Falkland have no excuse and were well beaten, leaving them with only the League to play for. Six games remain, beginning with West Lothian at home on Saturday.
