FCC Legend

The club was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Robert (Rab) Brown at the age of 72.

Rab Brown played for Falkland for over 30 years before hanging up his boots in 1988.He was an aggressive, flamboyant opening batsmen who was particularly strong through the covers and straight down the ground. Over several years Rab and Charlie McGarrie formed a formidable 1st XI opening partnership with their complementary styles, the smaller Charlie being more of a cutter and a puller. They often made 100 partnerships with Rab tending to outscore Charlie.

Rab scored over 9000 runs for the club which included 5 centuries and 37 half centuries. He famously scored 2 hundreds on consecutive days in 1969 - one of these in a night match ! His highest score was 111 not out against Rossie Priory in 1980. Rab was also an outstanding wicket keeper taking 350 catches as well as 71 stumpings often enticing batsmen out with some lively banter as well as providing some astute advice to the bowlers as where to bowl. Later in his career he turned to fast bowling with some success and in his greatest hour he once terrorised Cupar taking 6 for 33 at Duffus Park.

Rab was also a great character off the pitch and would always be first into the bar to socialise with the opposition. He was indeed very popular and made many, many friends over the years several of whom were present to bid their fond farewells at his recent funeral in Markinch.

The club's thoughts continue to be with Steven, Scott, Julie and Russell and the wider family.
