Falkland made the short trip to local rivals Freuchie for the first match of the Strathmore union Division 2 South season. Batting first, Dale Wilkie and Atholl Grieve got off to a slow start making 2 and 4 respectively although Atholl hung around for a while in his first competitive game for the club. Ryan Farmer followed soon after which led to Geordie and Scuba coming together.
Geordie carried on where he left off last season, making 91 not out and along with Scuba's 43, 8 from Scott Robertson and a few other bits and pieces, Falkland's ten men reached 173 all out.
Taking the field, Falkland made a good attempt at defending the total. Dale Wilkie and Greg Chambers opened and both bowled tightly with only 18 runs coming from the first 10 overs. Dale claimed two wickets; it was however, Scuba who took four with his off spin. Young Lyle Robertson produced the excellent figures of 2 for 9 from three overs, the wickets coming in successive deliveries.
Despite this, and taking 7 wickets with the score still short of 100, Freuchie secured the victory as Falkland were unable to remove the two experienced batsmen at the tail of their innings.
