Winning the toss on Saturday vs Carlton at Duddingston Mains, I invited the opposition to bat. Dale and Tony opened the bowling tidily and in the 4th over Tony took the first wicket thanks to a great one handed catch by Mel behind the stumps. Number 2 followed in the next over as Dales claimed the first of his 3.
The 3rd wicket fell with the score only on 8 as Connor affected a run out with a direct hit from the mid wicket boundary. 4, 5 and 6 followed in quick succession, catches from Joe Peggie and Jayden Kellock both from the bowling of Peter Matthews and another run out thanks to Connor - this time throwing into Mel's gloves at the far end from the long off boundary. Peter could have had more - a good chance was dropped and he actually hit the stumps without dislodging the bails.
From 27/6, there followed a stand of 70 for the 7th wicket before Connor struck with the score on 87. Dale then took the last 2, (the opposition only had 10) to close the innings on 95.
Fresh from his performance in the field and 103 in his last game, Connor opened with Joe Peggie. The opposition bowling wasn't the strongest and we made good progress towards our target. Joe was the only wicket to fall, lbw for 18, and Connor was joined by Jayden and they saw us through to the target in the 15th over.
It was great to see players like Joe and Jayden back on the field - it looked like they'd never been away.
Many thanks to Carlton for contributing to a very enjoyable match that was played in excellent spirit and for lending us a fielder when Peter injured his finger.
