Season Opener = Victory For Seconds

Falkland 2's started the season with a fairly comfortable victory against Stirling 3's on a sunny but breezy afternoon at Scroggie Park.

The opener to the 2013 season also saw the return of Paul Watson to playing duties and after Mike Watson won the toss and elected to bat, it was he and Tam Brunton who opened up for the home side.

A very steady opening partnership saw Tam & Waldo reach 56 before the later was clean bowled for 24. This led to a succession of wickets including Tam who fell for 27. At the drinks interval the two's were teetering on 81/6 and a low score looked a possibility. However this was avoided as the middle order of Mike Mo, Callum Bell and Michael Watson consolidated and then posted a reasonable total of 184. Mike Mo top scored with 37 and was supported well by Callum(20) and Mike Watson(19).

Stirling's response was to lose 2 quick wickets to the evergreen Mike Watson and Grant Porteous got in on the act to reduce the away team to 12/3. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and the away team were eventually bowled out in the 42nd over with the total on 120. What was extremely pleasing was the bowling performance of all the bowlers used but in particular Scott Meikle who bowled his 10 overs straight through and returned figures of 1/26. Just as impressive was young Dale Wilkie's bowling performance, he took 3/16 off of 6 overs and bowled with excellent consistency.

All in all a very positive start to the 2013 season. Well done lads!!
