In a way which disappointed all their travelling supporters, Falkland exited the Village Cup in superb summer weather at Victory Park, Meigle on Sunday. Falkland won the toss and batted, a decision that may not have been the best because the wicket was unpredictable. But Falkland contributed to their own downfall with some injudicious strokes and the Rashid brothers exploited the conditions well. Jack Henderson's 23 was the only contribution of note but he was out caught behind to a ball that he should have left alone.
Falkland did not really have very much to bowl at, but Lyle Robertson took 4 for 28 and at one point with Meigle on 47 for 4, a shock result seemed not entirely out of the question, but one or two lusty blows knocked Falkland out of the game. Another 30 or 40 runs would have made a great difference and given Falkland's bowlers and fielders more of a chance.
All in all, it was a very disappointing, but Meigle are to be congratulated, and wished well on their adventures against English teams in future rounds of the Village Cup.
