Falkland 1st XI Lost by 7 wkts.
Falkland brought down the curtain on the League season at Scroggie Park on Saturday with a defeat to the League Champion's Heriot's. It was no disgrace to lose to such a fine side which has several Scotland Internationals in it, and there were several heartening displays in the Falkland side as well, not least in the debut of George Cutler who won his spurs by some sensible batting and bowling.
Falkland were put in to bat and the Edinburgh opening attack of Main and Neill soon made inroads until Falkland's international brigade of Cooray and Cassell stopped the rot. Lyle Robertson also made a creditable 27, but the final total of 166 did not seem enough. A feature of the innings was the fine ground fielding of the Edinburgh side.
The total was reached in 25.4 Overs. Falkland never really recovered from the early onslaught of Mackay-Champion who reached 47 before being bowled by Logan Briggs, but it was Van der Berg who did most of the hitting.
The game was played in a good spirit in pleasant sunny weather before a reasonable crowd. Falkland have retained their status in the Easter Premier League, no mean feat for a rural team who have produced so many of their own players. The future looks good for 2023, but before that we have the Fife Cup final against Freuchie on Sunday September 4 at Freuchie at 2.00 pm. Given good weather, that looks like a very good way of wrapping up what has really been an excellent season with loads of good cricket from Falkland.
