Falkland Top Table After Good Win

Saturday 28th August was a day of contrasting emotions at Scroggie Park.
The fixture engendered the traditional rivalry between the old Cricketing foes, enhanced somewhat by the relative positions of the two clubs in the league. Added to this was the very welcome gathering of many past players at the club. But before the match started there was a poignant moment for all present when John Christie, a Falkland Cricketing Legend was remembered with a minutes silence and the Falkland Cricket Club flag at half mast.

Falkland won the toss and elected to bat. Graeme Watson and Euan Sloan gave the home side a steady start, reaching 85 before Graeme was bowled by Dale Cowan. After Euan was out for 45 and Steven Meikle for 15, Harsha Cooray (75 from 65 balls) and Lyle Robertson (56 from 36 balls) took Falkland’s total to 243 for 3 from their 45 overs.

A very good 60 from 61 balls by Freuchie’s Captain, Ian Stonebridge gave the visitors hope but they were all out for 185 after 42.5 overs (Lyle Robertson 4 wickets for 25 runs). Falkland won by 58 runs and the afternoon finished with great celebration as the result placed Falkland on top of the SPCU NE Championship with just one game against DHSFP at Scroggie Park to go.
