Dundee High School FP 57 all out
(S Jonny 17, L Briggs 4 for 9)
Falkland 58-0
(E Sloan 39 not out). At Dalnacraig.
Falkland won by 10 wkts
Falkland had a very comfortable victory over Dundee High School FP on Saturday at Dalnacraig in fine weather, although an east coast haar was beginning to makes its unwelcome appearance at the end.
Adam Ferguson won the toss and put Dundee High School in. His decision was justified when the Dundee men collapsed to 57 all out. The up side of this was the inspired bowling of Logan Briggs who took 4 for 9, three of them lbw; the down side was the fact that Falkland conceded 21 Wides! Out of a Total of 57 that is a percentage of 36.84, which is nothing short of shocking for a team aspiring to win the North Eastern Championship. On the other hand, the fielding was good and the team had a welcome appetite for the game.
The runs were scored in less than 8 Overs with Euan Sloan playing some fine strokes for his 39 not out. It was a good performance by Falkland, a particularly satisfying aspect being the part played by the youngsters who have been brought up by Falkland's excellent youth system.
And full marks to Shogun Johnny of Dundee High School FP who "walked" after he had gloved a ball to the wicket keeper. The Umpire might not have given him out, but Johnny pre-empted the decision. In a sport where tantrums and spoilt brat behaviour are sometimes rather too common, that is the way that cricket ought to be played! And Dundee High School FP, although heavily defeated were courteous and sporting hosts throughout.
