Falkland Won by 77 Runs
The cricket season in Fife got off to a cold but significant start on Saturday at Freuchie in front of a reasonable crowd of cricket enthusiasts. It was a 30 Over friendly, and was played in the right spirit. As the teams are both in the Strathmore Union North Eastern Championship this year, it will be the first of several encounters between the two old friendly rivals,
Falkland batted first and reached 173 thanks to 50 from veteran Graeme Watson and 41 from newcomer Arul Senthil who had already made a favourable impression in the few games Falkland were able to play in 2020. Freuchie never really got going in the face of some tight Falkland bowling and fielding, and finished well short.
But it was encouraging to see cricket played again, and a feature of the game was that a young girl played for each side and made a significant contributions to the game, Lois Wilkinson of Freuchie and Emma Halliwell of Falkland.
There will be warmer days to play and watch cricket this season, one hopes!
