Falkland Won by 7 Wkts
On Saturday, Falkland brought down the curtain on this rather unfortunate season with a good win by seven wickets against the XL Club which contains cricketers who have reached the age of 40 or more, many of them having been great players in the past. This game was originally intended to be part of a much larger celebration of Falkland's 160 years, but of course circumstances this year made that impossible.
The XL Club won the toss and batted first, but apart from a good knock by Mike Louw, once of Stoneywood-Dyce, and one or two lusty blows from Bobby Angus of Stenhousemuir at the end, they had little to offer against an accurate Falkland attack and subsided to 82 all out in 30 Overs. The best bowler was Craig Hepburn who took 4 wickets for 8, and Danny Caldwell bowled 5 Maidens in a row!
For Falkland, Graeme Watson hit six 4s in his 47 not out and Euan Sloan hit two 6s to finish things off in style for the home club. 2020 has been a dreadful season for cricket, and has adversely affected Falkland in particular whose many young players have not really had much of a chance to show their value. We can only hope that 2021 will be better.
