Falkland Won by 102 Runs
Falkland won their second game out of two on Saturday as the impressive pre-season form continues. The game was at a cold Lochside Park in Forfar, and several players were given an opportunity to put their talents in the shop window, as it were. Strathmore are a team with a good ground and a great past who have fallen on hard times, but there were signs that they may be on their way to return to the National League some time soon.
Falkland batted first and scored 207 for 6 in their 40 Overs. Brock Ditchmen retired at 65, and he was well supported by the impressive Paul Spillane who scored 48, and by Ben Strachan who scored 28. In the field, Strathmore were restricted to 105 for 8, but the bowlers had difficulty in dislodging the teenage brothers Murray and Hayden Evans at the end. A feature of the innings however was the brilliant caught and bowled of Ardene Ruhode to dismiss the dangerous Matthew Simpson. Ben Strachan, Ardene Ruhode and Brock Ditchmen each took two wickets.
It is important not to read too much into this game which was, after all, only a pre-season friendly against a team from a feeder League, but it was a good workout for the boys, and the victory will keep spirits high. The game was played in an admirable spirit throughout.
