Falkland made the trip to Edinburgh to play Grange with several regulars missing due to holidays and work commitments namely Ryan Hepburn, Akshay Nangia, Matt Surry and Alan Hamilton Jnr.However, this only served to provide an opportunity for Eastern Premier League debuts for youngsters Cameron Nellies and Connor Langlands.
In bright but overcast conditions skipper Brock Ditchmen lost the toss and was invited to bat on what looked like a decent deck. Bryn Cleaver and Connor Ryan started cautiously and were appearing to be getting the better of opening bowlers Goudie and Sole when Bryn missed a straight one and was clean bowled (10 for 1).This brought Steven Meikle to the crease who looked solid enough until he played slightly across a straight one and was adjudged LBW (23 for 2).Safyaan Sharif came in at 4 and he and Connor took the score on to 35 for 2 when the (expected) rain came and the players left the field. After a lengthy delay during which tea was taken play resumed at 3.15 with the match now reduced to 38 overs. Connor and Saffy looked in no danger at all when with the score on 49 Ryan drove a straight one which the bowler Foulds deflected on to the stumps with Sharif out of his crease (49 for 3). In the next over Connor tried to pull a shortish delivery and was bowled leg stump. It has to be said that although it was not raining at this time the mist had rolled in and it was becoming more and more difficult for players of both sides - in fact the scoreboard was barely visible from the pavilion. Jack Henderson and Adam Ferguson safely took the score on to 63 when the umpires took the decision to take the players off as it was just too dark and misty to continue. The rain then came back and the sensible decision was taken to abandon the match. Falkland remain in 5th position in the Eastern Premier with 5 matches to play and welcome Watsonians to Scroggie next Saturday.
