Falkland 179 for 9
(J Henderson 35, O Ahmad 3-22)
Carlton 166 all out
(F Watts 62, F Boyd 30, S Sharif 4-39)
Falkland Won by 13 Runs
This was a marvellous win for Falkland in a game played in splendid weather at the lovely Carlton ground in Edinburgh, in what may well be Falkland's first ever win at that ground.
Falkland won the toss and batted, and a good opening stand between Jack Henderson and Bryn Cleaver put on 62 runs before Bryn was caught behind off the accurate bowling of Ahmad. Thereafter all the batsmen contributed, although no-one had a great innings against the good accurate bowling of the Edinburgh attack. The total of 179 certainly looked defendable.
Falkland started off well when Sharif spectacularly bowled the Carlton Overseas Amateur in the second over, and very soon, supported by good accurate bowling from Hepburn, Sharif made inroads into the Carlton batting dismissing Scotland Internationalists like Preston Mommsen and Gordon Drummond. But Fraser Watts proved difficult to dislodge, and he eventually found support in Fraser Boyd. They took Carlton from 98 for 7 to 154 before Watts was caught at wide mid-on by Ryan Hepburn. This effectively won the game for Falkland, but it had been a fine game of cricket from which both teams emerge with credit. If one wished to be critical of Falkland, one might say that 9 wides and 3 no balls were too many to give away, but the attitude of the players was first class, and they are also to be commended for the way they accepted Umpires' decisions, not all of which were in their favour.
