Falkland got off to a good start in the Eastern Premier League with a comfortable win over SMRH at Scroggie on Saturday. The conditions were highly doubtful, but the ground staff worked hard to get the pitch playable, and the game got off to a delayed start at 1.00 pm. An hour was lost to rain after SMRH started batting, and such are the labyrinthine quirks of the Duckworth Lewis method that SMRH, although bowled out for 119, were nevertheless credited with 125! For Falkland, Sharif was very impressive on his debut with 4 for 12, the other bowlers also bowled well and we are pleased to record that only 1 Wide was recorded in the whole innings! Brad Moses batted well for his 43 for SMRH, but Falkland felt that they had done well in the field with some good catches taken and a great deal of tidy ground fielding.
Falkland began slowly, and were pegged back for a spell, but a very impressive innings by Connor Ryan was good enough to see Falkland home with a degree of comfort, even though batting conditions were far from ideal. It was a good start to the season, and hopes remain high that this may be a season to remember at Scroggie. The team were well led by Brock Ditchmen, and the spirit and atmosphere about the club are very encouraging.
