Successful Meeting and Awards Presentation

President Robbie Nellies welcomed over 30 members, parents and supporters to the club’s recent AGM held in Falkland Community Hall.

Reports from the President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Match Secretary, Treasurer and Junior Convenor all reflected upon a very successful season.

This season saw the 1st XI gain promotion to the Eastern Premiership and win the Fife Cup. The 2nd XI finished a very creditable 2nd in the S & PCU Division 1 and the 3rd XI ended up mid table in Division 2 but more importantly completed a good number of games. It was noted that there have been some outstanding individual performances throughout the club.

Despite ongoing challenges presented by covid the club saw an increase in playing membership and it was very pleasing to see that this group included returning ex-players. Encouragingly numbers are strong enough to reintroduce a Sunday Development XI in 2022. The club is always on the lookout for new members who will be made very welcome.

The club successfully, albeit belatedly, celebrated its 160th anniversary with a cricket week including matches against Ashley CC and the Forty Club. A very enjoyable players’ reunion also took place on the Saturday of the cricket week.

Junior cricket also bounced back with excellent numbers across the All Stars, Dynamos Cricket, Incrediball and Hard Ball groups. The introduction of Dynamos, which replaced Kwik Cricket, proved to be very popular with 27 children participating. It was lovely to welcome 25 new boys and girls and their families to the club.

It is a matter of immense pride to have several youngsters representing the club in current International and Regional squads. Congratulations were extended to Lyle, Logan, Emma, George, Ryan, Andrew and Charlie. Best wishes also go to Lyle who heads out to the West Indies in January as part of the Scotland U19 World Cup squad.

Harsha Cooray’s presence provided a huge boost across the whole club with the benefits there for all to see. We are thrilled that Harsha will return next year.

There has been significant investment in the ground and machinery resulting in Scroggie being in great condition all summer. However, it was acknowledged that continuing to improve the ground and facilities remains a top priority. The club are seeking additional volunteers to help with the ground and assistance with replacing old machinery. If anyone can help, please get in touch.

A number of fund-raising events had contributed to a very good year financially although renewed efforts would be needed to increase income and keep costs down in 2022.

The club is extremely thankful to the businesses who have continued their support during the pandemic and hope to rekindle all partnerships next year. The club is always on the lookout for new sponsors and if anyone is interested then please get in contact.

It was agreed that subscriptions remain at same levels as 2021.

A year in which the club lost one of it’s true legends John Christie who sadly passed away in August.

Grateful thanks were expressed to everyone across the club for their fantastic contribution in helping make 2021 such an outstanding year.

Looking ahead to 2022 and to what promises to be an exciting season several aims were discussed including establishing 1st XI in the EPL, having 2nd and 3rd XIs competing for promotion in the S & PCU, forming a Women and Girls group, reviewing junior section, re-introduction of Sunday Development XI and progressing the re-development of the clubhouse.
